Clay - our Skincare Gift from Mother Earth!!!

Sun dried clay has a record of usage by the Romans, Greeks and ancient Egyptians in treating a wide variety of aliments. Its application is becoming increasingly widespread, especially in France where its successes have been well documented.

Why a Clay Mask?

Clay is rich in minerals and active enzymes. Clay treatments stimulate the circulation of the blood and lymph systems, remove dead skin cells and absorb dirt and other surface fats. They also tone and strengthen the connective tissues. Clay draws toxins and superfluous fat from the skin. It contracts and tones the skin and strengthens the connective tissue. Because of these many properties, clay is very useful for treating the following conditions:

  • Acne and other skin problems
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Poor lymph circulation
  • Sunburn and general burn damage to skin –( a blend of clay, aloe vera, tea tree and lavender is outstanding for all kinds of burns.)
  • Irritated and sensitive scalp

When do I use a clay mask?

It is best to mask after exfoliating if you’re using them together. Exfoliation will help get rid of excess dead skin as well as superficial debris in the pores. (Katybugs cucumber refining Scrub/Exfoliant) The clay mask further deep cleans the pores along with helping to soothe and calm the surface. Exfoliating and using a clay mask can be done in tandem, once a week as a mini, at-home facial. They do not need to be done together, but it’s nice to do both if you have the time. Exfoliate, run a bath, put the clay mask on, hop in and relax! After removing the mask, use your toner and moisturizer along with your cucumber eye gel.

Quick Tips:

Dot the clay mask on blemishes after your evening Three Step routine and leave on overnight. Clay will help to diminish (but not totally clear) the spots.

If you are short on time and need to mask, five minutes before your morning shower apply a clay mask. Jump into the shower, and the mask will stay moist from the steam. Remove it at the end of your shower, with your cleanser and use your toner and moisturizer.
